The Witch's Mark is back at DOOR OPEN SPACE!

Did you catch part one during ADE last year? If not — no worries. Over the past year, the collective has been working on the extended full performance, and we’re thrilled to premiere it right here at our venue.

In short about the show 

What does it mean to witness the suffering of others? What role do we play as spectators of another’s pain? And how can women reclaim their voice and power in a society that suppresses them? The Witch’s Mark by Belle and The Beats, in collaboration with choreographer Leyla de Muynck, visual artist Deniz Eroglu, producer duo CUT_ and shibari rope artist Papilicious takes you on an intense, multisensory journey through the dark world of a witch trial. A fusion of electronic live music, vocals, dance, shibari and visual art invites the audience to witness the three stages of the witch trial: interrogation, trial, and execution.

The Witch’s Mark draws inspiration from the 1486 book The Hammer of Witches (Malleus Maleficarum) by Heinrich Kramer, who blamed women for his desires, presenting his views as the Church's stance. "The Witch’s Mark" refers to the mark that interrogators would search for on a woman's body as a sign of the devil. In an era where we are accustomed to being passive spectators on our phones, The Witch’s Mark challenges the audience to question what they are truly witnessing as they scroll. The performance, divided into a public trial, ritual humiliation, and the aftermath of an execution, uses fetish imagery to examine power dynamics. The audience is invited to move beyond passivity and reflect on how historical injustices continue to shape the present.
