ADE Exhibition: A Scan Through Dutch Rave Culture: 1990 - 2005

Exploring the visual memory of the rave.

With "A Scan Through Dutch Rave Culture", One Eye Witness, Bastiaan van Berkel, Thunderboom and Podiumkunst.net present a digital flyer archive and book that captures the vibrant history of electronic music culture. Flyers and posters, once ephemeral nightlife announcements, have become cultural artefacts — living traces of creativity, freedom, and community.

The very first Flyer Scan Day in the Netherlands took place last year at Sexyland during ADE, where collectors and ravers alike brought their treasures to the scanner. This year, we return with the results: a rich archive built from decades of dedication, featuring contributions from legendary figures such as Antal (Rush Hour) and DJ Shinedoe, as well as countless private collectors who’ve safeguarded their own unique slices of rave history.

In the Immersive Exhibition “A Scan Through Dutch Rave Culture”, visitors step inside a living archive where iconic images float, transform, and come alive through augmented reality. Massive projections reveal how rave aesthetics have evolved across the decades, from underground warehouses to established clubs.

A Scan Through Dutch Rave Culture presents the visual power of rave not as mere nostalgia, but as a tangible record of a cultural movement shaping identity and community.

Tickets to this event include access to the opening of the 'ClubCult' exhibition at Door Open Space. After the opening night, The Grid will remain on view until Saturday, 25 October.
